Our Story.
It all started when our founders Julian Dobbin, Peter Moloney, and Richard Burrows noticed a gap in the SME lending market that others were only partially servicing.
All of them had experience in starting and owning a business; they had been through the full cycle of funding – from investing their own money, persuading friends & family to invest theirs, to eventually borrowing from banks and other lenders, before transforming their businesses into PLCs.
They have invested together on several occasions and strongly believed that establishing Spark would fulfil this gap. Julian would stir the business as its CEO, whilst Peter and Richard would be the main investors and active Board members.
Parallel to that, in 2017, our current director, Jamie Davies, started his own commercial finance brokerage called JD Capital Finance. Spark had the ways to build the technology, and believed they could improve its development by bringing in more market expertise, which lead to the merge of Spark and JD Capital Finance in April 2023.
